The Community Bus provides round-trip transportation for a bi-weekly grocery shopping outing on a Friday (holidays excluded). It is designed for those who:
- are independently mobile (may use a walker or cane)
- would not qualify for the DARTS program through Accessible Transportation Services
- do not have a cognitive diagnosis (e.g. dementia, alzheimers)
- do not have easy access to transporation (e.g. bus, taxi, car).
D.A.R.T.S. Transit picks up clients at their door/entrance and transports them to either Ancaster Fortinos or Ancaster WalMart (alternating Fridays). There is a $7.00 fee for the service which is invoiced by ACS by mail on a monthly basis. Clients may bring a bundle buggie or walker (please inform office).
Clients who wish to take the shopping bus must call our office at (905) 648-6675 by noon on the Wednesday before the shopping day. Our office will call you the following day (Thursday) with the pick-up time.
Thanks to our partners at the D.A.R.T.S. Foundation and to a Ministry of Transportation (Ontario) Grant, we are able to offer the Community Bus (Shopping and Events Bus) Program on a bi-weekly basis at a low cost.
Please note: Clients do not need to be registered with D.A.R.T.S to qualify for the Community Bus program.
Space is very limited and on a first come, first served basis.
To register, please contact Alethea Ouzas, Community Outreach Worker at 905-648-6675 to complete an over-the-phone registration.
